Fano , the city of Fortune, is cheerful, lively, sunny, rich in history and monuments . Nothing better than discovering it during the Carnival when, in the middle of winter, it colors and warms up along the streets of the historic center but, above all, along Viale Gramsci where the parade of allegorical floats which are the most representative elements takes place for three Sundays of this ancient popular festival .
Legend has it, in fact, that the Carnival was born in Fano in medieval times, on the occasion of the reconciliation of the two most important city families of the time: the Del Cassero and the Da Carignano. Subsequent testimonies from 1765, in addition to the pig bullfight, target shooting and palio races, already mention the Getto, one of the peculiar characteristics of the Fano Carnival which over the centuries transformed from the arrogant one of the confetti that the nobles threw without pity on the crowd, to the colourful, delicate and delicious throwing of chocolates and sweets that draw thousands of spectators to the stands and stages.
One of the traditions of the Fano Carnival is, in fact, the Getto : it involves the throwing of tons of sweets and candies from allegorical floats, to symbolize the joy of the party. Chocolates and various sweets are thrown towards the crowd, and around 10,000 people try to catch at least some. It is no coincidence that the motto of the festival is " The sweetest in Italy since 1347 ".
Over time, the allegorical floats have seen their size grow until they become real papier-mâché giants, real walking stages that are born from the brilliant imagination of the master float drivers.
Accompanying the parade of floats is a procession with various kinds of masks who interact with the public by dancing and dancing.
The whole event is divided into three phases: first the presentation parade of the floats; at the second passage there is the highly anticipated jet and at the third, when it is already evening, the floats parade illuminated with a thousand effects and lights.
But the most welcome guests of the Fano Carnival are children . A truly special section is dedicated to them: the Children's Carnival. At 10.00 every Sunday there are dedicated masked parades, entertainment, music, entertainment and creative workshops. For the first time this year, children will be able to visit the majestic floats with the float drivers who will act as guides.
