Palazzo Rotati at the time of the Coronavirus
#iorimangoacasa
In these days marked by the virus I have the opportunity to live Fano and many and contrasting are the thoughts. The city always crowded and full of cultural proposals is silent. Streets, alleys and squares register mostly few and fast passersby.
I have known this city for many years, I have seen it happy in major events, worried about adversity but always active and active.
The silence of these days is new to me. Even if in this period tourist activities have not yet started, in a normal situation everyday life was enough to make a city like Fano alive.
Now, however, the city has fallen asleep, it's all postponed, it expects this period to pass as quickly as possible. Hotels, restaurants, public and private places are ready but waiting, being paused for a while.
Even at Palazzo Rotati you can breathe a different air that is perceived as soon as you enter the entrance hall . In the morning new noises are heard, unusual people are seen in the apartments. Not people dressed in sneakers and hats ready for a tourist trip or with suitcases in hand on arrival or departure, not girls with the trolley of perfumed linen destined for the guest rooms. Now the artisans are the people who meet in the building, the sounds of the shops of the past are what you hear when you enter the apartments. Oh yes, because in this waiting period, Gabriela takes advantage to renovate the premises, to give them a new life and to be ready at best when they leave again.
Even in the kitchen there is no joyful bustle that was there every morning, that coming and going of the girls who come out with trays full of dishes full of good and inviting-looking things that Gabriela prepares and come back with the same empty trays. Do you know what happens in restaurant kitchens at 12.00 on a public holiday? Here, this is the atmosphere that was breathed every morning in the kitchen from 7.00 to 10.00.
But now it's all quiet in the early morning, it's just the people in the house who take turns to have breakfast. The activity began later: with an unusual calm due to his character Gabriela started cooking. New scents are felt and new ingredients I see on the table in the center of the kitchen. I am not asking for anything so as not to disturb you, so I know that later on you will explain what you are inventing. These days, in fact, other dishes appear in the kitchen of Palazzo Rotati, because Gabriela is experimenting with new recipes to continue to amaze her guests and friends. But not only are we talking about recipes, Gabriela is usually a volcano of ideas to better welcome her guests and let alone if in this period of break she does not exaggerate. Cooking classes, aperitifs, outdoor dinners, concerts in the garden of the building ... I believe that time will not be enough to do everything.
In light of this I would say that what is happening is not an absolute evil. This period of "quarantine" could turn into an opportunity to look at our life with different eyes. Appreciate its value without the hustle and bustle of everyday life and seek the possibility of improving it, just as Gabriela is doing with her building.
